Kathleen McKeon is an herbalist and a
board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who earned her MS in nursing at the
University of Southern Maine in 2008. She has worked with clients of all ages in
two family practice clinics in the Portland, Maine area and is enthusiastic and
eager to discuss integrative health care choices with her clients.
Kathleen began studying herbalism in 1995 at the Rocky Mountain Center for
Botanical Studies in Boulder, Colorado and completed a two year apprenticeship
w ith herbalist Tammi Hartung in 1999. She is knowledgeable about traditional and
scientific uses of botanical therapies and passionate about promoting the safe
use of medicinal herbs. Her herbal experience includes: managing Nature’s
Apothecary, and providing education to the public at the Herb Research
Foundation and at Pharmaca, an integrative pharmacy in Boulder.
As an herbalist in Boulder, she had a small clinical practice and consulted with
a nurse practitioner who was open to alternative therapies. This experience
inspired Kathleen to pursue her present career. With over 10 years of experience
as a clinical herbalist, she has had the opportunity to work with children and
adults using botanical therapies and brings an integrative holistic approach to
her work as an APRN.
Kathleen’s other interests include aromatherapy, exploring culinary adventures
in the kitchen, reading, gardening, tea drinking, gentle yoga and taking herb
walks. She enjoys living in Maine and swimming in the ocean.
