Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire. She completed her clinical dietetic internship at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Melissa expands her knowledge and expertise, earning continuing education credits in areas such as food allergies, weight management, eating disorders, mindful eating, pediatric nutrition, vitamin, mineral, and herbal supplementation, sports nutrition,  metabolic syndrome, and nutrigenomics.

Melissa enjoys being a resource for healthy eating in her community by volunteering in schools, doing workshops, and connecting people with locally grown food.

The Counseling Process- guiding people towards healthy eating and exercise

The initial consultation involves a discussion about your nutrition related health concerns.  Together we’ll explore your eating and exercise habits and how emotional issues, family and work commitments impact your food choices.

Each person presents with a unique set of circumstances.  Variations in health conditions, genetics, digestion and absorption of nutrients, growth, weight, and food preferences are explored and considered throughout the counseling process.  This results in an individualized plan that is both practical and achievable.

Recommendations include specific nutrient dense foods to balance carbohydrate, protein, and fat and to increase vitamin and mineral content; specific vitamins, minerals, and herbs can also be recommended depending on individual situations.

Working with Parents, children, and babies

Teaching our children to be healthy eaters is a life long gift.  The feeding relationship between parent and child begins at birth.  Melissa works with mothers on feeding issues related to breast and bottle feeding, introducing solids and new foods, and creating a joyful eating environment for growing children.  She also works with parents to incorporate practical solutions to complex and difficult family eating situations.  These include picky eaters, food allergies, growth and weight concerns, and failure to thrive.
